Looking for the perfect way to toast to summer parties, backyard barbecues or your Fourth of July bash? Sangria is the ultimate crowd-pleaser: fruity, refreshing and easy to make ahead.
We’ve put a patriotic twist on this classic favorite with five red, white and blue-inspired sangrias that will have your guests raising their glasses for an encore. Let’s get mixing!
Classic Red Berry Sangria
1 bottle of dry red wine (like Tempranillo)
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup Cointreau
1/4 cup simple syrup (to taste)
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 cup raspberries
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced
Sparkling water or lemon-lime soda, to top off
In a large pitcher, combine the wine, brandy, Cointreau, simple syrup and all the fruit. Stir well, cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is even better). Before serving, add a splash of sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
White Peach & Blueberry Sangria
1 bottle of dry white wine (like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
1/2 cup peach schnapps
1/4 cup brandy
2 peaches, thinly sliced
1 cup blueberries
1 lemon, thinly sliced
Club soda, to top off
Mix the wine, peach schnapps, brandy, peaches, blueberries and lemon slices in a pitcher. Let it chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours. Pour into glasses filled with ice and top each with club soda for a refreshing sparkle.
Rosé & Watermelon Splash Sangria
1 bottle of dry rosé wine
1/2 cup vodka
1/4 cup elderflower liqueur
2 cups watermelon, cubed
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 lime, thinly sliced
Fresh mint leaves
Sparkling rosé or lemon-lime soda, to top off
Combine wine, vodka, elderflower liqueur, watermelon, strawberries, lime and mint in a large pitcher. Chill for at least 2 hours. Before serving, add a splash of sparkling rosé or soda for a pretty, fizzy touch.
Patriotic White Sangria
1 bottle of white wine (try Riesling or Moscato for sweetness)
1/4 cup Cointreau
1/4 cup honey or agave syrup
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup strawberries, sliced
1 cup blueberries
Fresh basil or mint, optional
Stir together the wine, Cointreau and honey in a pitcher until the honey dissolves. Add the fruit and herbs. Let it chill for at least 3 hours. Pour into glasses and garnish with extra berries or basil sprigs.
Tropical Red, White & Blue Sangria
1 bottle of dry rosé
1/2 cup coconut rum
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1 cup diced mango
1 cup blueberries
1 cup strawberries, halved
Fresh lime slices
In a pitcher, mix wine, coconut rum, pineapple juice, mango, blueberries, strawberries and lime. Chill for at least 2 hours. Serve over ice and enjoy that tropical burst!
